Vaccine Mandates and Southern California Theme Parks

Updated: Feb 9, 2022

Up until June 15, 2021 California's COVID-19 restrictions and regulations were in place statewide. When California reopened as a state, it was left up to businesses and counties to implement their own restrictions. This has led to confusion for those traveling across the state because in the same day you can be in a county that requires proof of vaccination to eat indoors and upholds strict mask mandates, and a county that doesn't require masks indoors. It appears that this county based system will stay in effect for the foreseeable future, so this can lead to confusion for those visiting southern California theme parks.

Los Angeles County

As of December 17, 2021, everyone who is 5-years-old or older must show proof of vaccination or a negative test when entering a theme park in the county. Those who are 18-years-old or older must show a photo ID along with their vaccination card at the entrance. For guests who are not vaccinated, you must show a negative antigen test taken within the last 24 hours, or a negative PCR test taken within the last 48 hours. That means that guests may need to take multiple tests throughout their stay. Tests have also become extremely hard to find due to supply chain delays. This order is in effect for the following:

  • Universal Studios Hollywood

  • Boney Island

  • Los Angeles Zoo

  • Sherman Oaks Castle Park

  • Six Flags Magic Mountain

Orange County and San Diego County

Moving south along the coast from Los Angeles county is Orange county, then San Diego county. Neither Orange county nor San Diego county have such strict regulations as Los Angeles county. For guests visiting theme parks in Orange county and San Diego county, guests do not need to show proof of vaccination or a negative covid test. The following parks do not require guests to be vaccinated or show proof of a negative COVID-19 test:

  • Disneyland Resort

  • Knott's Berry Farm

  • Legoland California

  • San Diego Zoo Safari Park

  • SeaWorld

  • Belmont Park

  • Adventure City

  • Balboa Fun Zone
